No, the default launcher doesn’t support such customisation. You may try other launchers.
For the outlook app, you need check the settings inside the app. I am not sure whether it has such settings (because I never use it).

If you open an app, then tap the home button (not back button). Now tap the recent button, can you see the app?
Very likely, it’s due to some other apps you installed. Normally, it’s not necessary to install any task manager apps in your moto e.

There is no hardware reset button on any smartphones. You can reset the phone in Settings –backup and reset– factory data reset.

Moto E is a phone with very limited capabilities. NO MUSIC at all unless you can manage Google crap. Which see other comments here DOESN’T WORK.
MOTO E Won’t recognize standard Mp3 files that are easily used by other phones. Thi sis a serious piece of crap with atrocious support.

You are probably wrong. For music files in Moto E, you can always use many third-party players. For example, VLC for Android can play most files including mp3.
Google Play music is good for music from Google Play store.

I have my music on my sd card and it shows in Google Play Music. I can listen to my music anytime. Good thing too because I’m not paying Google Play Music for anything!

You should turn on Portable WiFi hotspot. Other devices then can find this hotspot (you can specify network/hotspot name).

probably, your phone is infected with malware. Google NEVER has pop ups.
Also, for Android, it is not necessary to install antivirus apps if you get apps from Google Play store only. You should NEVER click links you are not sure.
Anyway, if I were you, I would backup important files and data, then try a factory data reset.

All Moto E and Moto E 2nd Gen phones do NOT have LED flash. So, it is not suitable for taking photos in darkness. Only the 3rd gen has a LED flash.
For moving apps and data to SD card, it depends on your current Android Version. In some regions, the 4G LTE version of Moto E 2nd Gen was updated to Marshmallow. In this case, you can use SD card as internal storage. Any important data should be backed up to somewhere else (e.g., PC or cloud.).
If your Moto E is still running Lollipop, there are many limitations. Only some apps can be moved to SD card as explained in this guide: How to move apps to SD card in Moto E?. It is up to individual app developers to decide whether their app supports SD card.

You can copy the mp3 or m4a file into Notifications folder. Then you can set it in Calendar app. Please note all events and reminders will use same tone. You can copy the file by connecting the phone to the PC with an USB cable. Please read this guide on how to connect Moto devices to PC.
YouTube app supports offline view in some regions. By default, YouTube does NOT allow downloading. So, there are NO legitimate Android app for downloading YouTube videos. If you really need to download YouTube videos, you can do this on a PC with FireFox browser. There are a few YouTube download plugins for FireFox on PC. You can copy the downloaded mp4 files to phone later. Please do NOT download Android apps or plugins from other sources. They usually contain malwares.
VLC for Android is recommended.

First, you can only set special tone for calendar. But you cannot set different tone for individual event or reminder or goal.
Open Google Calendar, tap the hamburger button (top left, 3 lines, NOT the 3 dots in top right), then tap Settings (scroll down to the end of the navigation menu) –General –Use standard tone. If you un-check use standard tone, you will then get the option to set the tone for calendar.

Reminder by default should only remind you once. You cannot snooze it.
The reminder tone can be set in Google calendar app. Tap the navigation menu (3 lines in top left), tap settings – general. But you can set the tone for all reminders and events. You can NOT set tone for individual reminder or event.

If internal storage is full, your phone will crash often. You should release some space in the internal storage by following ways :

The timeout usually is due to internet connection speed.
anyway, you may try to clear cache and clear data at settings–apps–Google play store.

Disconnect the charger. Press and hold volume down buttons a few seconds, then without releasing the volume down button, press and hold power button until you see something on the screen.
You can also try it with volume up.

You can connect your Moto E to the pc with an USB cable. Then copy the music file to ringtone folder of the internal storage. You can later choose it as your ringtone.

I am unable to copy files/media from my PC to moto e.First of all,I am unable to see the device in my PC.I am using USB cable.When I connect the moto e to my PC, the mobile is charging but PC could not identify and show in the devices list.I have installed ‘Motorola Device Manager’ from motorola site and when I run this I get a message “there are no updates for your device at this time” and nothing changes.

Apps from play store always are always downloaded to the internal storage. You cannot change the location. You may move the apps to SD card after installing it (depending on apps). Some apps cannot be moved to SD card at all.

WiFi hotspot is for sharing mobile data connection, not direct file transfer.
Moto E does not support WiFi direct, so you have to use bluetooth to share files between two phones. If is a bit slow. If you need faster transfer, you can transfer files through PC.

Yes, Moto E has a notification LED. It will pulse if you have missed calls or new notifications. You may check your Settings–display. Make sure Pulse notification light.

I am experiencing bluetooth problem in moto E. first i have paired with other mobile and when i send files to paired devices, they are tranferiing without any issues. But when I am receiving files from other phones, tranfer is failing after sometime and i see error as following “transfer cacelled by user”
2. Second problem is..I have copied some games apk files from my laptop to MOTO E by datacable in ‘download’ folder of moto e internal storage. But Moto e not showing/recognizing these files in this folder.
Please advise on above 2 queries.

For the first question, you have to try again.
To copy the files, you can simply use a USB cable. Once file is copied to the Moto E, you need a file explorer to browse files. If you are not sure about this, install ES File Explorer to Moto E by following this guide:http://motoeguide.com/moto-e-guides/manage-files-moto-e-es-file-explorer-file-manager/
To sideload apps to Moto E, you need enable apps from unknown sources: Settings–security, check unknown sources.

By default, the LED is on only when battery level is critically low. otherwise, it will not show anything about battery status, even when charging.
The LED color in Moto E is always white. You may install some apps to change the flash frequency

The setting only affects Bluetooth transfer handled by ES File explorer. Actually, you should set this to the corresponding folder in the internal storage. ES File explorer does NOT change the system settings.

Normally, you charge your Moto E, you should charge it until the battery is fully charged. This is the most important part to maintain the battery.
The lower limit usually is not an issue. But every month, you’d better let the battery level goes lower than 15% at least once.

You don’t need such apps if you are not sure whether you need them.
For the screen, Moto E comes with gorilla glass for the screen, Normally, you don’t need screen protector. If you want o keep it clean, you can get one from ebay or local handphone shop. The original one is for dust. It is not a real screen protector. Again, Moto E screen is protected by the Gorilla Glass (which normally you can only find it in high-end smartphones).

The proximity sensor is on by default. Actually, Moto E does not provide options for you to activate or deactivate it.

my moto e music player doesn’t works properly. when I am opening Google play music and selecting song to play, it plays another song and automatically within 2 seconds it jumps to another song. like this its going on changing the songs. I am not able to connect to internet using wifi on MOTO E. I was able to connect to Internet using 2G. But when I try to connect via wifi, it shows connected, but there is no internet access. I get “Can’t establish a reliable data connection to the server” message. All the apps are not able to access internet, google play , chrome, youtube,gmail, none of them get internet access. I am able to access internet using wifi on other devices like my laptop at the same time. I have verified the password and also reset the phone once to factory settings. Please help!!

Once you connect Moto E to the WiFi, go to Settings–WiFi. Tap menu key in the bottom right. tap Advanced. make sure “avoid poor connections” is NOT checked. Also, make sure IP address is assigned properly in the bottom of the same page.

I received moto E, yesturday and I am also facing the same problem as mentioned above Rishi in MotoE, able to access internet from 2g, but wifi get connected but no internet access, its shows you are offline error message. I also unchecked avoid poor connections in wifi -> advanced settings. please let me know Is it is a device problem so that I will ask for a replacement. thanks

Did you check the wifi status? You need check whether the Moto E gets a correct ip from your router in the advanced page.
If the ip is not assigned, you can try to tap and hold your wifi network id and choose forget network. Then provide network password to connect again?

The problem may be on specific batch of Moto Es for specific markets.
There are no known (open) issues with Moto E’s wifi. If there was such a problem, Motorola should already have issued an emergency patch/update.
Maybe, you can track down the issue: can you Moto E find/discover your WiFi network? Does it work if you change the router security to WPA-personal?….

You can create folders on home screen, but not the app drawer.
In any of the home screen, tap and hold any app, move it over another app, this will create a folder with 2 apps inside. We will release a short guide on this soon.

it depends on how you transfer the file.
if you received it through Bluetooth, it should be under sdcard0/bluetooth. sdcard0 means internal storage.

E means 2g data connection. It seems the network signal is not strong. It probably has nothing to do with your Moto E.

First, WiFi hotspot is for sharing mobile data connection, not for such purposes.
The fastest way to transfer many files is through PC. Copy the files to PC, then copy to another phone.
You may use some apps, for example, superbeam to copy files from one phone to another directly through WiFi direct or Bluetooth.

i use sim1 sim2 with vodafone numbers and in sim1 i have 3G data plan….
10 days later slot 1 showing signal but mobile internet not connecting……

I have a MOTO E. I am a quadriplegic, and I hence unable to use my hands and fingers properly.. I find it extremely difficult to use the power button located at the side of the phone to wake up my phone each time I need to do something, unlocking is somewhat easy using the slider though..I use blue tooth for calls..Is there an easier way to wake up the phone without using the side button, either without using side button, or using blue tooth with voice or any other app that you can suggest.. I would be grateful if you can help or suggest an alternative.. Please suggest.. Thanks in advance.

Probably there are no simple solutions for this. In the market, only Moto X has the touchless control, i.e., the phone is always listening to your voice commands. All other smartphones will shutdown the voice listening capability once the phone is locked.
Yes, the power button design in Moto E is not good. Also, Moto E doers not have a home button.

The video cannot be played could be due to several reasons, for example, the format is not supported, the file is corrupted…

I think it’s probably caused by your Internet connection.
If the website allows downloading, then you don’t need any apps. Sometimes, the website may have a dedicated apps for downloading.

1). yes, it’s possible, but you need manually move the files. In other words, you cannot set the default location for Bluetooth unless you are using Bluetooth through other apps. The files received through Bluetooth are saved in Bluetooth folder in the internal storage. You can move it to external SD card manually.
2). If you cannot find the phone in my computer or explorer, you probably need install Motorola USB driver.

I have problem with moto e camera it cannot captures clean photos of texts which are on newspaper,books.but it captures very nice pictures of other things.

Moto E camera does not have auto-focus, no macro mode. So, it is not suitable for small text. I don’t think there are any workaround because these are hardware limitations.
What you can try is to turn off HDR. It may make it slightly better (don’t expect it too much).

It is not necessary. I would not recommend any.
Most antivirus app are just wasting your resources.
My recommendation is that you should not get apps from suspicious sources. Get them Play store or Amazon app store.

YouTube is for streaming. I don’t think you can find any apps for downloading YouTube videos in play store.
But if you want, you may check other app stores. There should be some: but most of them has annoying ads or even malware. Try at your own risk.

Not an easy job. If they are very important, don’t use your phone and find some professionals to recover the data. Nobody can guarantee the files can be recovered.
By default, all of your photos are backed to Google +. If you didn’t disable it, you can check your Google + on a pc.

This is not a bug. Actually this is a feature on many phones. It seems Motorola did not include the settings to deactivate it. There after some apps that can deactivate it.

The best way to blocking all calls is to do it with your carrier. You can forward all calls to voicemail as well. Most carriers provide such services.
If you want to do it in Moto E, you can try Motorola Assist (http://allaboutmotog.com/how-to-use-motorola-assist-on-moto-g/). But you cannot do it for individual SIMs if you are using dual SIM.

The best way to set the ringtone from SD card is, get a mp3 cutter and trim the song or music when you save it, there will be a question whether to keep the trimmed song as a default ring tone. Just check yes and it will be done. I have used it and it is successful. No other way.

Not an easy job. Moto E does NOT support MHL, so you cannot connect your Moto E to the PC through cables.
The simple way probably is using Chromecast. But screen mirroring through Chromecast is not supported on Moto E yet. You have to rely on apps to cast “some” contents (including local videos, music and photos on the phone) to the TV. But not games. Please note, Chromecast requires internet connection through wireless router.

Not sure. But the camera in Moto E is mainly for outdoor use. In low light condition, even with the LED, the photo quality probably will not be good because of the lack of autofocus.

For whatsapp, you can try to enable popup notification. If it works, then you disable it. After this, the notification may work properly.
In addition, you may check the Settings–Apps-WhatsApp, to see whether you accidentally disabled the “show notifications”.

If I were you, I would disable the notifications of the stock messaging app (Settings–Apps–All-Messaging, uncheck show notifications). Then you can forget about this app and use your favorite apps.
Sometimes, some apps rely on some functions of this stock app. So, it is not a good idea to stop it or disable it. As mentioned, you just disable the notifications for this app.

Most sites (e.g., YouTube) do not allow direct downloading for copyright reasons. You can only watch online.
For other sites, they allow you to download, you can do it just like on a PC (from Chrome browser).

If it’s downloaded, you can find it in the download folder. Your music player should be able to find it.
How to download files from a website depends on the website from which you download the files. In chrome browser, you can request a desktop version so that it will be similar as what you get from a pc.

In People app, you can assign photos to any contact. You cannot sync Facebook contacts with People app. It is not the fault of Moto E: Facebook closed doors to Android.
The Moto E camera does not have auto focus. It need patience and good lighting condition to take good photos.

You can manage your contacts in the people app. The contacts are also synced with your Google contacts unless you disable it.
For searching files, Moto E doesn’t provide this option or app. You may check Google play store to find some apps. I never used such apps, so I cannot make any recommendation.

For downloading I tap on save link option it shows downloading but after 5-6% of downloading is completed it shows downloading failed
I am facing this problem even while using 3g hspa.
Even I am not able to download WhatsApp video’s .
While using WhatsApp as soon as download is complete it again starts downloading.(that downloading wheel starts filling again download is Neva complete)
How to overcome these problem?

It’s very likely due to your isp settings. It is probably has nothing to do with settings in your Moto E. Some 3g service providers may block large files downloading.

Sir, while using my Camera of Moto E, I don’t get the quality of 5 mega pixel. Rather it gives an effect of poor quality say 2 mega pixel. I tried a lot from the settings of the Moto E but to no avail. Please guide me. Mainly I face problem while clicking a photo of some text. The photo of text is not readable, it is blurred. Please help me.

the number of pixels should be around 5M (2592×1944)in 4:3 mode.
But the number of pixels is not the cause of your problem. Moto E camera does NOT have autofocus. This makes it impossible to capture small objects (for example text).
You may try HDR mode. Sometimes, it gives slightly better capture. You may try some other camera app (e.g.,camera 360).
But anyway, due to hardware limitation, there is no workaround.

H+ is the fastest mobile connection you can get on Moto E. In some regions, this is called 3.5G. In other regions, it is just called 3G.

Very likely, the USB driver was not installed successfully. You must run the installer as Administrator. Right click the file, then choose “Run as Administrator” (even you are administrator).

This is usually due to poor internet connection. For large downloads, it is better to use WiFi.

You can swipe from the top of the screen to access notifications without unlocking the phone.
If you want to display more info on Moto E lock screen, you may try this app: DashClock Widget (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.nurik.roman.dashclock&hl=en ) Of course, there are some other apps can do similar things.

I don’t think the messaging app has this feature. The messages are sorted as per contact already and it is not necessary to crate folders.
Anyway, if you need this feature, you may check some other sms apps. I’m not sure which sms app has this feature.

After charging for 10-20mins, you should be able to reboot it. Of course, you need make sure the charger is working(it should be a bit hot).
If you cannot boot it, you may have to send for repair.

You will not lose anything through the update. But it’s good practice to backup your personal data (sms, photos…) before the update.
Actually, most of the data are backed up to Google server already by default.
Anyway, it’s up to you whether you want to update or not.

You can add multiple numbers for any contact in People app.
Open People app, open the contact, tap the menu key (3 vertical dots in top right), tap edit. Under Phone, you should have one number. Under the number, there is a “add new” text (the color is a bit light) , tap it to add one more number.

Your contact in Moto E is synced with your Google account. Normally, as a personal device, it is not necessary to log out (remove) your google account. You can add multiple google accounts to one phone, and one account can be added to multiple phones.
You can try to disable sync at Settings–(Accounts) Google. Tap the account and disable the sync for contacts.

Some models get update slower than others…. You have to wait. Some regions get 4.4.4 update straightway.
If there is no update, it should show the system is up to date. It should not show nothing of it can connect to the ota server.

The ascending ringtone “feature” sucks and is stupid ; NO ONE WANTS IT AND I WANT TO TURN IT OFF.
The apps available in the Google Play Store do nothing.
Am I honestly going to have to root my phone and install a brand new phone apk file just to get my f****** phone to ring when it’s called?

No, the launcher in Moto E does not allow you to add or remove home screens. If you add too many pages, it loses the meaning of home screen.
You can use folders in home screen to organise apps. You may check this guide :

Hi Simon, when we open storage in settings, in internal storage there is an option of cached data… On clicking on it we get an option to delete it… Can v do that??? And another important thing I’d like to know is that my internal storage always fluctuates…. i.e. When i open es file explorer… Sd card 0 memory changes all time… Not much… Around 30mb up down….. Why does it happen…… By memory i mean free memory….. My last question is that when i tried to upload a photo on fb through opera mini it just gives the option of internal memory….. While my pics are in SD card….. What to do… Thanks in advance…

for the cached data, it is safe to delete. These are cached files (e.g., you may need them repeatedly, but they can be generated on the fly). It is a good habit to clear these files periodically.
The small fluctuation is normal. Some temp files may be generated by apps at any time. The updating of the storage size may be not real time……
To upload files through browser, it depends on the browser itself. Some apps allow you to navigate to root dierctory (/), then you can navigate to external SD card. But there are some apps that limit you to internal storage only. I’m not sure Opera Mini. It probably does not allow you to navigate away from storage/emulated/0. You can feedback to the app developer for the issue.

It could be due to many factors: 1). whatsapp may compress the video. Sometime, this may cause issues; 2). the recipient’s phone may not handle the video codec properly.
You may try to share the file through Google Drive, which normally does not compress videos.

I installed the drivers then also it is not detecting the moto e device on windows 7 PC,then i tried re installing the drivers as well but no change it is still not detecting the device please help.

If you remove all apps and widgets in a page, that page will disappear.
You can tap and hold any apps to remove it from home screens or move it to another screen.
If you choose Google Now launcher, Google now page (left) cannot be removed.

I have a moto e.I recently bought a idea sim in Bangalore, Karnataka India. The mobile detects the sim that’s not a problem.the problem is its not receiving network. Its showing emergency calls only. There is no coverage problems because I m at the center of the city.my friends got network coverage but not me.

Emergency mode usually means the sim card failed to register with any available mobile networks.
Did you try to put the sim in the other slot if its a dual sim model.

In Settings — Storage–, My device is showing like these (Apps(183GB) AND CACHEDDATA(195 GB). But actually I installed only WHATSAPP.and including whaysapp iam using gmail only. Can I know what exactly is that memory.

Please note, the total space is the actual space (4GB) minus space occupied by the system (OS).

Roaming usually. This may happen when there is no signal. It may then switch to other partner’s network.
When you see this symbol, you can swipe from the status bar (top of the screen) with two fingers, you can see the actual network under the mobile signal icon.

What error?
You may try some different apps to open it. Google spreadsheet or kingsoft office should have no problems to open most excel files.

Some Moto E owners get that message because they cut/trim the sim card themselves. If you are use the self – trimmed card, you may check with the phone company to get the official micro sim card.
You can also test the phone with this sim card only.

it means the message center number is not correct, or your mobile plan does not include sms. You may check with your phone company.
also, please test it with text message (not MMS) first.

The number is pre-configured by your phone company and saved in the SIM card. Moto E does not provide any utility to manage it.
You can try the sim card in other phones to check the number. For example, most Samsung phones even allow you to change it.
Anyway, you can call the phone company. They will normally send you a message with all settings. Apply the settings in the message should give you correct settings.

If it is in a website, you can try to tap and hold the picture until the option window pops out.
Please note, some websites may not allow you to save pictures. Normally, if you can save the picture from a PC, you should be able to save it from your Moto E. You can also request desktop site in Chrome.

I tried that what you have told. After tap and hold the picture it is showing options like save image and more. But after I select save image option that page is idle. What apps? Does this cause battery issue for you? if the phone works well, don’t change it.
I seldom recommend task manager or similar apps because they most of the time create problems, instead of solving problems.

By using phone dialer in second sim after finished dialing and then exit from that dialer on that time only previously opened apps automatically opened and close itself….

SMS is always saved in internal storage. You can backup them and save a backup copy in the SD, or your PC, then delete some.
You need use some apps that may allow you to set the default locations. Foe example, SuperBeam, ES File manager allows you to set default location.
Chrome for Android does not allow you to set default download location. You can try other brosers, e.g., Dolphin Browser for Android or Firefox for Android. Both of them allow you to set the default download location.

Is it working with headset?
You need check the volume, and audio effects (try to turn it off).
You may also reboot the phone to see whether the sound comes back. Factory data reset is the last option.
Of course, you can also visit local Motorola service center to check the phone.

I assume you want to share your mobile data connection with the laptop, which has no internet connection.
If your laptop has a wireless adapter (it should have), you don’t need use cable. Once your mobile data is active in Moto E, go to Settings–More–Tethering &portable hotspot–portable hotspot. Then your laptop can connect to the hotspot.
If your laptop does not have a wireless adapter, you should connect your Moto E with the PC, then in Moto E, go to Settings–More–Tethering &portable hotspot–USB tethering.

You can clear the default settings at Settings–Apps–ES file explorer. tap clear defaults.
Media storage only check the pre-installed ringtones and audio files you put in the ringtones folder. ES File explorer can check all audio files except the pre-installed ones. So, they complement each other. You should use just once, not always unless you are going to use one of them.
Don’t waste time to access pre-installed ringtones with ES file manager when setting ringtones.
FYI: the pre-installed ringtones are saved in /system/media/audio/ringtones

Moto E b has a proximity sensor. Some apps can use it to unlock the phone. This was discussed in other comments. You may try smart screen or wave to unlock. You need test which one works best with your flip cover.
Please note all these apps consume considerable battery as they must run in background all the time.

I would not recommend any tools for this. If they are very important, you may try some professional data recovery services. Nobody can guarantee how much can be recovered.
A lesson learnt : turn on automatic photo backup to your Google + in photos app. Actually the backup was turned on by default of you didn’t it turned off.

Anyway, you can go to settings–apps, tap the menu key (3 vertical dots), tap reset app preferences. After this, you can try again, When it ask you to select an app to crop the picture, you should select gallery (just once).

this is the 3rd replacement I got from flipkart. worked for few days again same issue. The phone came with android version 4.4.2 and the moment you connect to wifi network, it says updates available. After update it’s Android 4.4.4.
The issue, the phone works fine as long as you don’t change the SIM, the moment you remove the sim from sim slot, it will stop working, It doesn’t deduct the sim. it seems it gets locked, and even if you put the same sim back, it will not get deducted. Raised the issues and Flipkart replace it. But this is not a solution. Why it’s gets locked. Why only when you have 4.4.4?
A friend has the same moto e, he doesn’t use net. and in a month or so he didn’t face any problem. Is there a solution available?

I don’t think the phone is locked.
Very likely, the SIM card slot may have some problems. Normally, SIM card detection and registration is automatic without any intervention.

I think you mean the speed dial in your phone app. That area lists your favorite contacts (you tapped the star in the people app), and numbers you talk with often. It cannot be customized.
The actual replacement for speed dial is a widget named direct call. With direct call widget, it is not necessary to open phone app first. Each speed dial contact have an icon in your home screen (just like apps). Tap the icon to make calls.

You should not stop Google play services. Some apps rely on them.
You can also disable background data to limit the battery drain. But some apps may be affected. So, test it first for a few days.

For Excel, you can try wps office (kingsoft office) or Google sheets.
For PDF files, you can try adobe PDF reader. There are many similar apps for this. Wps office can also handle it, but with limited features.

For phone call recording in Moto E , most apps can only record voice from your side. This is true for other phones as well. In most regions, it’s illegal to record phone calls without getting consent from the other party.
What themes are you referring to? If it’s the launcher, you can try other launchers from Google play store. The default Google launcher doesn’t allow much customization.

This usually is due to the poor contact between sim card and the slot.

When you open Play music, there is always a shuffle all button. This will play all music files in your phone randomly.
Please do NOT tap individual songs. You can add the individual song to the playlist or add to the queue.
Once you open the playlist, tap the menu key (3 vertical dots in the right side of the playlist, choose Shuffle.
