• How to manage contacts in Moto E?

  • In the People app.

    • Is there any option to change the font style and color other than the default style and color given. Also for the outlook mails configured on moto e.

      • No, the default launcher doesn't support such customisation. You may try other launchers.

        For the outlook app, you need check the settings inside the app. I am not sure whether it has such settings (because I never use it).

        • What did you get if you tap the recent button?

          Did you install any task managers?

        • My motoE is not showing recent apps.when I click over tap button I get a blank screen, even if I uninstalled all task managers.

        • If you open an app, then tap the home button (not back button). Now tap the recent button, can you see the app?

          Very likely, it's due to some other apps you installed. Normally, it's not necessary to install any task manager apps in your moto e.

        • Where is the reset button on my moto e phone

        • There is no hardware reset button on any smartphones. You can reset the phone in Settings --backup and reset-- factory data reset.

          Please note, it will delete all your files and settings on the phone. You should backup the phone before resetting,

      • Moto E is a phone with very limited capabilities. NO MUSIC at all unless you can manage Google crap. Which see other comments here DOESN'T WORK.

        MOTO E Won't recognize standard Mp3 files that are easily used by other phones. Thi sis a serious piece of crap with atrocious support.

        • You are probably wrong. For music files in Moto E, you can always use many third-party players. For example, VLC for Android can play most files including mp3.

          Google Play music is good for music from Google Play store.

        • I have my music on my sd card and it shows in Google Play Music. I can listen to my music anytime. Good thing too because I'm not paying Google Play Music for anything!

        • You only need pay if you want to buy music from the play store. It's always free if you play your own files. You can also upload your music in the cloud as backup and access them from all your devices.

    • My moto e tethering is not working, I unable to share my internet. During on/ off tethering there is no difference in top.( it did not show wify share symbol at top) but tethering is on. Plz give solution to this issue.

      • You should turn on Portable WiFi hotspot. Other devices then can find this hotspot (you can specify network/hotspot name).

      When i search anything, google display a warning related some viruses in my moto e 2 generation and ask me to open a recommended link of downloading of an antivirus software from google play but when i click at the recommended link it doesnot open.what should i do and how can i remove the viruses?

      • probably, your phone is infected with malware. Google NEVER has pop ups.

        Also, for Android, it is not necessary to install antivirus apps if you get apps from Google Play store only. You should NEVER click links you are not sure.

        Anyway, if I were you, I would backup important files and data, then try a factory data reset.

        • All Moto E and Moto E 2nd Gen phones do NOT have LED flash. So, it is not suitable for taking photos in darkness. Only the 3rd gen has a LED flash.

          For moving apps and data to SD card, it depends on your current Android Version. In some regions, the 4G LTE version of Moto E 2nd Gen was updated to Marshmallow. In this case, you can use SD card as internal storage. Any important data should be backed up to somewhere else (e.g., PC or cloud.).

          If your Moto E is still running Lollipop, there are many limitations. Only some apps can be moved to SD card as explained in this guide: How to move apps to SD card in Moto E?. It is up to individual app developers to decide whether their app supports SD card.

        • You can copy the mp3 or m4a file into Notifications folder. Then you can set it in Calendar app. Please note all events and reminders will use same tone. You can copy the file by connecting the phone to the PC with an USB cable. Please read this guide on how to connect Moto devices to PC.

          YouTube app supports offline view in some regions. By default, YouTube does NOT allow downloading. So, there are NO legitimate Android app for downloading YouTube videos. If you really need to download YouTube videos, you can do this on a PC with FireFox browser. There are a few YouTube download plugins for FireFox on PC. You can copy the downloaded mp4 files to phone later. Please do NOT download Android apps or plugins from other sources. They usually contain malwares.

          VLC for Android is recommended.

        • You need a file manager to view and manage files on the phone. You can try Asus file manager in play store. (In settings - storage and USB, you can also explore the storage).

        • First, you can only set special tone for calendar. But you cannot set different tone for individual event or reminder or goal.

          Open Google Calendar, tap the hamburger button (top left, 3 lines, NOT the 3 dots in top right), then tap Settings (scroll down to the end of the navigation menu) --General --Use standard tone. If you un-check use standard tone, you will then get the option to set the tone for calendar.

        • Reminder by default should only remind you once. You cannot snooze it.

          The reminder tone can be set in Google calendar app. Tap the navigation menu (3 lines in top left), tap settings - general. But you can set the tone for all reminders and events. You can NOT set tone for individual reminder or event.

    • In people app, tap to open the details of the contact, then tap menu key to get the deletion/remove function.

    • If you are using web browser, you can log out as what you do on a PC.

      But if you are using the Yahoo mail app, you probably cannot log out unless you remove the account. This is the purpose of the app.

      • You have to download one from play store. There are no pre-installed voice recorder apps on moto e.

    • If internal storage is full, your phone will crash often. You should release some space in the internal storage by following ways :

      2. Clear cache to release some space temporally. Setting-storage.

          2. by default, YouTube does not allow you to download the videos for offline use. In Amazon App store, you may find a few apps for downloading YouTube videos. As you know, Play store bans such apps.

    • The timeout usually is due to internet connection speed.

      anyway, you may try to clear cache and clear data at settings--apps--Google play store.

    • Disconnect the charger. Press and hold volume down buttons a few seconds, then without releasing the volume down button, press and hold power button until you see something on the screen.

      You can also try it with volume up.

  • For photos or videos, you can access them from Gallery app. For music, you can access them from Google Play music.

    You can install ES File explorer from play store to manage all files.

    You can also conenct your Moto E to your PC with the USB cable, then you can manage all files from your PC.

  • You can connect your Moto E to the pc with an USB cable. Then copy the music file to ringtone folder of the internal storage. You can later choose it as your ringtone.

      • You can use any usb (Micro) 2.0 cable. In some regions, if Moto E comes with a charger, there will be no USB cable.

        • Once you move the phone from your ear, it should light up again. You can also tap the power button once to turn on the screen.

      I am unable to copy files/media from my PC to moto e.First of all,I am unable to see the device in my PC.I am using USB cable.When I connect the moto e to my PC, the mobile is charging but PC could not identify and show in the devices list.I have installed 'Motorola Device Manager' from motorola site and when I run this I get a message "there are no updates for your device at this time" and nothing changes.

      • What is the os of your pc? Normally, Moto E should be recognized even without the Motorola device manager.

        • I tried in windows vista and windows 7 laptops.mobile is getting chsrhrd but not detected.

        • Apps from play store always are always downloaded to the internal storage. You cannot change the location. You may move the apps to SD card after installing it (depending on apps). Some apps cannot be moved to SD card at all.

  • WiFi hotspot is for sharing mobile data connection, not direct file transfer.

    Moto E does not support WiFi direct, so you have to use bluetooth to share files between two phones. If is a bit slow. If you need faster transfer, you can transfer files through PC.

  • Yes, Moto E has a notification LED. It will pulse if you have missed calls or new notifications. You may check your Settings--display. Make sure Pulse notification light.

  • Just like the stock launcher. Tap any blank area in home screen, then choose Add. Then you can choose Go Widget or Widget

    You can also check the widgets available in app drawer. Tap the Apps button (left, not the menu button in the right side). Then Tap widget.

      • In app drawer, if you flick to right, you can find the widgets. Tap and hold to add any is them to home screen. Just like adding apps to home screen.

• I am experiencing bluetooth problem in moto E. first i have paired with other mobile and when i send files to paired devices, they are tranferiing without any issues. But when I am receiving files from other phones, tranfer is failing after sometime and i see error as following "transfer cacelled by user"

  • For the first question, you have to try again.

    To copy the files, you can simply use a USB cable. Once file is copied to the Moto E, you need a file explorer to browse files.     To sideload apps to Moto E, you need enable apps from unknown sources: Settings--security, check unknown sources.

  • Wifi or mobile data? Sometimes, it is a temporal server issue for some regions. You may take a break and try again in a few hours.

  • the default email app does not have this feature.

  • Settings--accounts_email. Select the account, tap menu key, tap remove account.

• My moto E does not have music player. MP3 songs stored on my SD are not recognized by Moto E

  • Do you have play music? It should be pre-installed in all Moto Es. It can play music files in your Moto E.

    You can also download any music players from the play store.

    For music files, you should copy them when you phone is connected to a pc through USB cable. This will ensure the music files are I indexed.

• Sir is the notification led just for missed call and messages or is it for battery status also and do we have colour choices for the led other than white?

  • By default, the LED is on only when battery level is critically low. otherwise, it will not show anything about battery status, even when charging.

    The LED color in Moto E is always white. You may install some apps to change the flash frequency

• Also i need to know that in es file manager even after setting home directory as sdcard in Bluetooth option why it is getting received in internal memory?

  • The setting only affects Bluetooth transfer handled by ES File explorer. Actually, you should set this to the corresponding folder in the internal storage. ES File explorer does NOT change the system settings.

  im new user to moto e your guide was very helpful,but i want to know how frequently to charge the device to get long battery life and also battery to last longer.should i charge it only when it is down to 10%...

  • Normally, you charge your Moto E, you should charge it until the battery is fully charged. This is the most important part to maintain the battery.

    The lower limit usually is not an issue. But every month, you'd better let the battery level goes lower than 15% at least once.

• How to disable the increasing ringtone in moto e plse help, its really annoying is there is any app to disable it? I tried disable increasing app from playstore it is not working

  • First, some apps cannot move to SD card.

    In settings - apps, the second tab lists the apps that can be moved to SD. You just need check it and follow the instructions.

    • Hi, Can you please clarify "second tab"? My tabs are Downloaded, Running, All, and Disabled. I see no information on any apps that may be moved to SD card.

      • The second tab should be "on sd card" if you have inserted a SD card in the phone.

  • You don't need such apps if you are not sure whether you need them.

    For the screen, Moto E comes with gorilla glass for the screen, Normally, you don't need screen protector. If you want o keep it clean, you can get one from ebay or local handphone shop. The original one is for dust. It is not a real screen protector. Again, Moto E screen is protected by the Gorilla Glass (which normally you can only find it in high-end smartphones).

  • Can you locate the file in your Moto E? If you are not sure how to locate the file, please follow the installing guide for es file explorer.

    To open word file, you need install an app for it. Quickoffice is a good one. Get it from play store.

  • You probably have to it from a pc. The people app in Moto E doesn't provide multiple contacts deletion.

      • The proximity sensor is on by default. Actually, Moto E does not provide options for you to activate or deactivate it.

• my moto e music player doesn't works properly. when I am opening Google play music and selecting song to play, it plays another song and automatically within 2 seconds it jumps to another song. like this its going on changing the songs. I don't know what going on. shuffle mode also in off condition. Although it going on changing not going to stable on 1 song. plz plz fix this problem guys

  • Did you try to clear cache and clear data for Google play music in Settings-apps?

    In ES File explorer, once you tap the file, it will ask you whether you wan to install the app.

• I am not able to connect to internet using wifi on MOTO E. I was able to connect to Internet using 2G. But when I try to connect via wifi, it shows connected, but there is no internet access. I get "Can’t establish a reliable data connection to the server" message. All the apps are not able to access internet, google play , chrome, youtube,gmail, none of them get internet access. I am able to access internet using wifi on other devices like my laptop at the same time. I have verified the password and also reset the phone once to factory settings. Please help!!

  • Once you connect Moto E to the WiFi, go to Settings--WiFi. Tap menu key in the bottom right. tap Advanced. make sure "avoid poor connections" is NOT checked. Also, make sure IP address is assigned properly in the bottom of the same page.

    • I received moto E, yesturday and I am also facing the same problem as mentioned above Rishi in MotoE, able to access internet from 2g, but wifi get connected but no internet access, its shows you are offline error message. I also unchecked avoid poor connections in wifi -> advanced settings. please let me know Is it is a device problem so that I will ask for a replacement. thanks

      • Did you check the wifi status? You need check whether the Moto E gets a correct ip from your router in the advanced page.

        If the ip is not assigned, you can try to tap and hold your wifi network id and choose forget network. Then provide network password to connect again?

        • The problem may be on specific batch of Moto Es for specific markets.

          There are no known (open) issues with Moto E's wifi. If there was such a problem, Motorola should already have issued an emergency patch/update.

          Maybe, you can track down the issue: can you Moto E find/discover your WiFi network? Does it work if you change the router security to WPA-personal?....

    Most apps does not allow any customization on the menus.

  • Probably there are no simple solutions for this. In the market, only Moto X has the touchless control, i.e., the phone is always listening to your voice commands. All other smartphones will shutdown the voice listening capability once the phone is locked.

    Yes, the power button design in Moto E is not good. Also, Moto E doers not have a home button.

  • 1). yes, it's possible, but you need manually move the files. In other words, you cannot set the default location for Bluetooth unless you are using Bluetooth through other apps. The files received through Bluetooth are saved in Bluetooth folder in the internal storage. You can move it to external SD card manually.

    2). If you cannot find the phone in my computer or explorer, you probably need install Motorola USB driver.

• How to send apps to other mobile?

  • If you have the apk file, you can just copy the apk file to other phones.

    If you install it from Play store or other app store, you can install on other phones with your own account.

  • Moto E camera does not have auto-focus, no macro mode. So, it is not suitable for small text. I don't think there are any workaround because these are hardware limitations.

    What you can try is to turn off HDR. It may make it slightly better (don't expect it too much).

    By default, all of your photos are backed to Google +. If you didn't disable it, you can check your Google + on a pc.

  • If I were you, I would disable the notifications of the stock messaging app (Settings--Apps--All-Messaging, uncheck show notifications). Then you can forget about this app and use your favorite apps.

    Sometimes, some apps rely on some functions of this stock app. So, it is not a good idea to stop it or disable it. As mentioned, you just disable the notifications for this app.

        How to download files from a website depends on the website from which you download the files. In chrome browser, you can request a desktop version so that it will be similar as what you get from a pc.

  • the number of pixels should be around 5M (2592x1944)in 4:3 mode.

    But the number of pixels is not the cause of your problem. Moto E camera does NOT have autofocus. This makes it impossible to capture small objects (for example text).

    You may try HDR mode. Sometimes, it gives slightly better capture. You may try some other camera app (e.g.,camera 360).

    But anyway, due to hardware limitation, there is no workaround.

  • H+ is the fastest mobile connection you can get on Moto E. In some regions, this is called 3.5G. In other regions, it is just called 3G.

  • Very likely, the USB driver was not installed successfully. You must run the installer as Administrator. Right click the file, then choose "Run as Administrator" (even you are administrator).

• My Week old Moto E started switching off on its own yesterday, today its not getting started. I'm charging the battery but that didn't help.

  • After charging for 10-20mins, you should be able to reboot it. Of course, you need make sure the charger is working(it should be a bit hot).

  • You will not lose anything through the update. But it's good practice to backup your personal data (sms, photos...) before the update.

    Actually, most of the data are backed up to Google server already by default.

  • Your contact in Moto E is synced with your Google account. Normally, as a personal device, it is not necessary to log out (remove) your google account. You can add multiple google accounts to one phone, and one account can be added to multiple phones.

    You can try to disable sync at Settings--(Accounts) Google. Tap the account and disable the sync for contacts.

• I cannot get any system update message regarding kitkat 4.3 on my MotoE phone. I also check in Settings->About Phone-->System Updates. But it show nothing...Anyone has an idea?????

  • Some models get update slower than others.... You have to wait. Some regions get 4.4.4 update straightway.

    If there is no update, it should show the system is up to date. It should not show nothing of it can connect to the ota server.

  • You can just reconnect. If it does not work, reboot the phone.

  • No, the launcher in Moto E does not allow you to add or remove home screens. If you add too many pages, it loses the meaning of home screen.

  • for the cached data, it is safe to delete. These are cached files (e.g., you may need them repeatedly, but they can be generated on the fly). It is a good habit to clear these files periodically.

    The small fluctuation is normal. Some temp files may be generated by apps at any time. The updating of the storage size may be not real time......

    To upload files through browser, it depends on the browser itself. Some apps allow you to navigate to root dierctory (/), then you can navigate to external SD card. But there are some apps that limit you to internal storage only. I'm not sure Opera Mini. It probably does not allow you to navigate away from storage/emulated/0. You can feedback to the app developer for the issue.

  • It could be due to many factors: 1). whatsapp may compress the video. Sometime, this may cause issues; 2). the recipient's phone may not handle the video codec properly.

    You may try to share the file through Google Drive, which normally does not compress videos.

    Please note, the total space is the actual space (4GB) minus space occupied by the system (OS).

  • Roaming usually. This may happen when there is no signal. It may then switch to other partner's network.

    When you see this symbol, you can swipe from the status bar (top of the screen) with two fingers, you can see the actual network under the mobile signal icon.

  • That means signal is not good. You may go downstairs to see whether the signal is better. Did it show carrier's name in quick settings panel ?

      • Some Moto E owners get that message because they cut/trim the sim card themselves. If you are use the self - trimmed card, you may check with the phone company to get the official micro sim card.

        You can also test the phone with this sim card only.

      • it means the message center number is not correct, or your mobile plan does not include sms. You may check with your phone company.

        also, please test it with text message (not MMS) first.

        • How can i find message center number?

        • The number is pre-configured by your phone company and saved in the SIM card. Moto E does not provide any utility to manage it.

          You can try the sim card in other phones to check the number. For example, most Samsung phones even allow you to change it.

          Anyway, you can call the phone company. They will normally send you a message with all settings. Apply the settings in the message should give you correct settings.

          If it is in a website, you can try to tap and hold the picture until the option window pops out.

          Please note, some websites may not allow you to save pictures. Normally, if you can save the picture from a PC, you should be able to save it from your Moto E. You can also request desktop site in Chrome.

  • SMS is always saved in internal storage. You can backup them and save a backup copy in the SD, or your PC, then delete some.

    You need use some apps that may allow you to set the default locations. Foe example, SuperBeam, ES File manager allows you to set default location.

    Chrome for Android does not allow you to set default download location. You can try other brosers, e.g., Dolphin Browser for Android or Firefox for Android. Both of them allow you to set the default download location.

• Facing problems with the sound system within a month music system becomes mute regardless of playing music.Even while dialling or receiving the call we are not getting the sound.. Kindly Help..

  • Is it working with headset?

    You need check the volume, and audio effects (try to turn it off).

    You may also reboot the phone to see whether the sound comes back. Factory data reset is the last option.

    Of course, you can also visit local Motorola service center to check the phone.

  • Moto E uses the stock Google launcher, so the Google search bar is hard-coded, and you cannot remove it.

  • I assume you want to share your mobile data connection with the laptop, which has no internet connection.

    If your laptop has a wireless adapter (it should have), you don't need use cable. Once your mobile data is active in Moto E, go to Settings--More--Tethering &portable hotspot--portable hotspot. Then your laptop can connect to the hotspot.

    If your laptop does not have a wireless adapter, you should connect your Moto E with the PC, then in Moto E, go to Settings--More--Tethering &portable hotspot--USB tethering.

  • I didn't try that site. You may try to use it as in your desktop. In Chrome, you can request desktop site so that it will look similar to that in your PC.

  • You can clear the default settings at Settings--Apps--ES file explorer. tap clear defaults.

    Media storage only check the pre-installed ringtones and audio files you put in the ringtones folder. ES File explorer can check all audio files except the pre-installed ones. So, they complement each other. You should use just once, not always unless you are going to use one of them.

    Don't waste time to access pre-installed ringtones with ES file manager when setting ringtones.

    FYI: the pre-installed ringtones are saved in /system/media/audio/ringtones

  • No such settings. You may check apps in Play store.

• Is there any sensor to turn on screen automatically when I open my flip cover

  • Moto E b has a proximity sensor. Some apps can use it to unlock the phone. This was discussed in other comments. You may try smart screen or wave to unlock. You need test which one works best with your flip cover.

    Please note all these apps consume considerable battery as they must run in background all the time.

  • I would not recommend any tools for this. If they are very important, you may try some professional data recovery services. Nobody can guarantee how much can be recovered.

    A lesson learnt : turn on automatic photo backup to your Google + in photos app. Actually the backup was turned on by default of you didn't it turned off.

• this is the 3rd replacement I got from flipkart. worked for few days again same issue. The phone came with android version 4.4.2 and the moment you connect to wifi network, it says updates available. After update it's Android 4.4.4.

  The issue, the phone works fine as long as you don't change the SIM, the moment you remove the sim from sim slot, it will stop working, It doesn't deduct the sim. it seems it gets locked, and even if you put the same sim back, it will not get deducted. Raised the issues and Flipkart replace it. But this is not a solution. Why it's gets locked. Why only when you have 4.4.4?
  A friend has the same moto e, he doesn't use net. and in a month or so he didn't face any problem. Is there a solution available?

  • I don't think the phone is locked.

    Very likely, the SIM card slot may have some problems. Normally, SIM card detection and registration is automatic without any intervention.

        • I think you mean the speed dial in your phone app. That area lists your favorite contacts (you tapped the star in the people app), and numbers you talk with often. It cannot be customized.

          The actual replacement for speed dial is a widget named direct call. With direct call widget, it is not necessary to open phone app first. Each speed dial contact have an icon in your home screen (just like apps). Tap the icon to make calls.

  • Rebooting the phone usually solves the battery drain problem of Google play services in Moto E.

    You should not stop Google play services. Some apps rely on them.

      • When you open Play music, there is always a shuffle all button. This will play all music files in your phone randomly.

        • Clear data and clear cache for the YouTube in settings - apps. This will delete am settings related to YouTube including history.

          You can do a factory data reset to remove all your settings and files. If you are using sd card, you should also format your sd card.

    • If you moved the file to other folders, the list should update itself. If not, reboot your Moto E.

      • By default, after you delete them, the space will be released. But the amount is so small that you probably will not see any difference in available storage space. • Hi Simon, when I am calling someone and putting it on loudspeaker then after few seconds display light turns off so not able to view anything on the display. Even if I press volume button still light doesn't come so not able to view if some other call / message is coming.

  • If you tend to talk very long time, you can use power button to turn on the screen. But by default, the power button is for ending the call. You need make sure the power button is not set as ending calls.

    Alternatively, before the screen is off, you can tap the home button(the middle one in the bottom of the screen). This will push the phone calls to the background and you can use Other apps while talking.

    Anyway, you need try it to find out the best solution suitable for you.

    Anyway, in your Moto E, if it's shown as connected, then it's connected to the router. You can verify the status in settings -about device -status.

    So you need make sure you set the upstream connection properly for the router.

  • Normally, they will remove your camera lens or use tapes to cover the lens. The security department should give you the advise.

    There is no easy way to disable it. You can disable camera app at Settings--Apps--All-Camera. But this probably is NOT what you want.

    Please removing the camera can be very expensive. So, if you are working in a sensitive environment, you should get a non camera phone.

    However, in your Moto E, you can automatically reject the call by diverting the caller to the voice mail. If to don't have voice mail, this essentially reject the call automatically. In people app, open the contact, tap menu key, then you can even the voicemail option.

  • You should save the video and photos to the SD card to avoid such problems. You should have a few GBs left.

    The system need reserve some space. Also, when the camera app exits, you some space will be released.

    It seems some dual sim models have this issue.

    Anyway, you can always manage contacts from a pc from your Google dashboard. The contacts can then sync with your phone and you can get the photos for individual contact.

  • The message centre number and other settings are saved in the sim card. Moto E doesn't change it. And it doesn't provide any tool to change it for security reasons.

    Please note, very unlikely, you need change that number.

    If you have messaging problem, you may call the phone company. They will usually send you a MMS and you just apply it to get the correct settings. Your carrier can always send you messages.

    If you really want to set it manually, you can do it in a Samsung or Nokia phone. They usually allow you to change the number. The modified settings will then be written to the sim card and you can use it in Moto E.

  • You can add more than one recipient. But this is treated as individual messaging.

    If you need group messaging, you need check whether your phone company provides it.

  • Is it really connected? Is the router blocking your phone?

    On the phone, you can check whether the phone is assigned an IP or not settings - about device.

    For the router, if it's yours, you can check the logs about your phone connections.

  • No, all apps and data will be migrated. So, it's not necessary to reinstall any apps.

      • It can be caused by some other apps. You may try to reboot the phone into safe mode to see whether you have the same problem. (press and hold volume down button when booting to enter safe mode).

        Of course, it could be done hardware problem. If the problem persists in safe mode, you may have to visit the service center to check and repair.

        • If there are no problems in safe mode, the problem is very likely caused by some apps you installed.

          If the problem persists in normal mode and you are not sure what's the app causing the problem, you may try to backup your data and perform a factory reset.

  • You can turn on sync for Google drive, then leave it there. Do anything else. Maybe after a while, it is ready. Actively open the app doesn't help.

  • Moto E only use contacts on the phone. They are synced with your Google account, by default.

    Moto E does not use contacts in your SIM card in the People app. it can import contacts on SIM card. In People app, tap the menu key, tap import/export. Then choose import from SIM card.

  • You can add multiple gmail accounts in your Moto E. Go to Settings--+ Add account (under Accounts category)--Google.

    Once you have more than one Google account in the phone, if you want, you can delete one of them. Again, you can have multiple Google accounts in the phone, NOT just one.

  • Tap and hold any image in the photos app. This will select this image, and you can select more (just tap). Once finishing selection, you can tap the dustbin icon in the top right to delete them.

    Please note, the photos in photos app are in the same location as what you see in the Gallery app. If you delete them from photos app, they will be removed from Gallery app (because there is one copy of the file). So, be careful!!!!

    For sms, you may have to copy and paste. Of course, you can take a screenshot and send the picture (that will be an mms).

  • Google search bar is part of the launcher. You cannot remove it. Of course, you can install any third-party launchers (e.g., Nova). Then you have the option to remove it.

    The caller's photo should be shown always. Did you encounter any problems with it?

    • It is actually visible but not completely on the screen. Incoming call to sim1 hides the pic.

      • I don't think you can customize the size.

        For calls to SIM 1, what sis shown? If caller number display (it is probably not free) is not enabled on the SIM card, your phone has no way to know who is calling.

  • Probably the network connection is not good. Skype is a bit picky on the connection speed. You may try to check it again later. If you are using mobile data, you may try to connect again when you see the 3G, H or H+ icons.

  • What icon? do you mean the album art when plying the music?

    I think some music files have the album arts embedded. You cannot change them.

    If you are using Google Play music, it may also automatically fetch the album art if it knows the music.

  • I never heard of this problem before. It may be due to faulty power button.

  • It seems some Moto E owners have this issue. I am not sure about the cause. For mine, there are no issues.

    You may try to edit contacts from a pc. All your contacts in the phone, by default, are synced with your Google account. So you can add photos for individual contact in your goodie dashboard

  • For groups, you can manage them in Google account dashboard on a PC. If you use people app, you have to add them one by one. You can create a group, then edit the contacts to change the group.

    For group messaging, you may check with your carrier first to make sure your mobile plan support this. if messaging app does not work, you may try Hangouts.

  • it usually means your internet connection is not good. You can leave it and do anything else. Google play store may download it in the background.

  I was in doubt whether MOTO E has Wifi direct or not. I could see the option in Settings wifi and could enable it. I tried to search for devices and I found my Samsung 32 inch 32H5500 Smart tv in the list. I could even connect to it. But that's all I could do . ie, connect to TV.   • If it is hardware problem, you have to visit the service centre to get it repaired.

    of course, you can backup your data to a PC, then reset the phone if you have no choice in recovery mode. Shutdown the phone, press the volume up and volume down buttons along with the power button at the same time for about 4 seconds.

  Excellent work of answering the Moto E queries. Hope you will clarify mine also.
  I received few files (movie video songs ) thru Bluetooth and they are showing in the Bluetooth received files. If we see in the settings -> storage-> misc files -> bluetooth it is showing how much space it was occupied, my question is how to transfer these files to SD card. Same thing with the download photos from Google + etc.
  Because of the large size of the videos and photos the internal memory is reaching full.

  • two different ways:
    method 1. go to Settings- storage, above unmount SD card, you can find the option "Move media" to move media files (video, audio, and photos) to SD card.

  • I think you mean the daydream feature. It's under settings- display. Enable daydream then configure it.

  • You need turn on Hotspot feature in your phone. It's under network settings.

    Once enabled, you will be asked to set the password. On the laptop, you can connect to the Hotspot through WiFi.

      • Hotspot doesn't need any additional devices. Your laptop connected to a hotspot created by your phone through WiFi directly.

        For USB tethering, it may be blocked by windows security settings. Did you get any messages on the laptop? You may also try to enable USB debugging under settings- developer options.

        Anyway, hotspot is simpler and it should be independent of you're laptop settings.

  • Normally, it will not work as you thought.
    When transferring audios, one is sender (play the music) and the other is receiver (acting as a speaker). For most phones and laptops, they can only act as the sender, not the receiver.

    You probably should get a Bluetooth speaker.

    A2DP is just a protocol. Of course, moto e sports it.

  • Android 5.0 was just announced. You have to wait one or two months before Motorola rolls out the update for Moto E.

    For the settings, you can go to Settings--About phone --system update to manually check the update.

  • The default launcher in moto e has a fixed number of home screen pages. You cannot add more.

    You can also try some other third party launchers which usually allow more pages.

    Anyway, it's not efficient to use too many home screen pages and widgets.

  • H (HSPA), H+ (HSPA+) are 3G connections. Some carriers may say H as 3.5G, H+ as 3.75G. The connection speed: H+ > H >3G

    E (edge) is 2G connection. It is the fastest 2G (faster then GPRS). But it should be far slower than 3G.

  • Disabling or turning off pre-installed apps will not save much space,because you cannot remove them. Moto e doesn't come with a lot of apps.

  • It is hard to guess how "hot" it is. But if there are temperature issues, your phone will be very slow and may shutoff automatically. You may install GSam Battery Monitor (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm&hl=en ) to check the actual temperature.

    Please try not to use the phone extensively when charging.

    Of course, if you feel there are some quality issues, you may check withe the seller for a replacement or repair.

  • USB tethering is a bit complicated. It depends on the PC settings as well. You first need install Motorola device manager (USB driver) so that the PC can recognize your phone.     Only after your Moto E is recognized by the PC (you can find your phone on the PC), then on the phone go to Settings-- More (under Wireless and networks) --Tethering and portable hotspot --usb tethering.

    For WiFi Direct, Moto E supports it. But it cannot be used together with internet connection. In other words, if WiFi Direct is enabled, the internet connection through WiFi will be stopped.

      • I didn't get it. What phone number field? You cannot change the phone number assigned for the SIM card. What exactly do you want to achieve? You may explain in detail.

        If you want to edit the contact info of yourself, you can open People contact, add any numbers to individual contact (including yourself). But for outgoing calls. the recipients always see the number associated with the SIM card with which you make the call.

  • Moto E does not use popup message.

    If you didn't disable notifications, you can see all notifications in the notification panel (swipe down from the top of the screen). There should have symbols in the status bar.

    If the phone is locked, notifications from pre-installed apps by default also are displayed in the lock screen.

  • You can try it again when the phone is connected to internet. 

    You can also edit contacts on a pc in your Google dashboard.

  • You can user any standard usb cable. It depends on regions. In some regions, the usb cable was provided, but not the charger. The packaging box and vendor should tell you what are included.

    In addition to usb, you can sync files to Google drive or Dropbox. You can access these files from pc or mobile phones then.

    You can also use Bluetooth if your pc has it.

  • After rebooting the phone, let it start and don't use it for a few mins.

    In the home screen, there are actually only shortcuts. The apps are always in the phone unless you uninstall them. If some are missing from home screen (they should NOT), you can manually add them again.

    Again, I think probably you didn't wait long enough.

• I also had bluetooth issue than I discovered that in moto e you get a notification for receipt of file ,you have to choose "yes" for file transfter to complete,mobile will cancell the incoming request from bluetooth aftersome time.:)

  • Home screen is like your desktop on a pc. You can put shortcuts of apps and widgets there so that you can launch them quickly or get specific info quickly.

    Lock screen is like login screen on a PC. But Android put some useful info there so that you may get the info quickly without unlocking the phone, e.g., checking time, controlling music player...

    The duration for the phone to turn off the display can be set in Settings--Display--Sleep.

    You my check the user guide to get used to the phone. There are so many possibilities: it all depends on what you want to do.

      • The statement is questionable. The good practice is don't leave the phone on the charger for too long time after it is fully charged.

        If your phone is connected to the PC through USB cable, the battery level may even decrease depending on your usage.

        Anyway, you should not worry too much. After all, you may get a new phone or replace the battery after 2 or 3 years.

    For Gmail accounts, they are under Settings--Google. You can also disable email sync to disable email receiving. Please, once a Google account is removed, all info and data associated the account will be removed.

  Description: While i prepare my business expenses excel sheet in my laptop i usually add a cooment on that particular expense to remember where it happened and get that sheet mailed to myself for future reference.

  • Only part of the data can be moved to SD card. In the Settings --apps, you can find the detailed space usage in internal memory and SD card for each app.

        • Moto E does not provide such info. (Android Lollipop update will give more detailed info).

          You can roughly check the storage usage with ES File Explorer (SD card analyst) or some other apps.

          Anyway, if the app is listed under SD card and is checked, it means it is moved to SD card. How much data can be moved to sd card depends on each app. This is surely beyond your control.

  • It's unlikely. Are you sure the sd card is damaged by the phone? Most SD cards have 5-year warranty. Did you check the issuewith the vendor?

    Please note, you should format the sd card in the phone, not on the pc.

    • Thank you for your reply. Unlikely, maybe, but fact. The latest one lasted a week, I formated it, and at the moment the phone is still reading it. The phone itself is fine, but one of the reasons I bought it was for the camera.
      The sd was in my old phone, which is several years old and was fine in there, it follows that the problem is with the 3 month old phone.

  • Contacts are associated with your Google account. If you remove the Google account, all contacts under this account will be removed from the phone automatically.

    You can add more than one Google account to your phone so that contacts associated with all Google accounts can be used. If you don't want to keep the Google account on the phone, you have to manually add the contacts.

  • Moto E doesn't use contacts in sim. You can import them into the phone in People app (or contacts app).

• Android OS is consuming a lot of mobile data on my Moto E (almost 10-15 MB daily). I have done following to restrict mobile data consumption on my mobile but without any success. Android OS continues to eat away my precious data balance while mobile data is on. Simon, request you to suggest a way to check the same.

  Steps taken:

  1. "Restricted background data" for individual apps. But this setting is not available exclusively for the Android OS app/process
  2. Universally "Restricted background data" under Settings->Data usage->Menu
  3. Disabled "Backup & reset"
  4. No automatic updates for any apps using mobile data
  5. Using default wallpapers provided with the factory settings

  • I would suggest you to turn off mobile data. Turn mobile data on only when you are actively using it. Turn it off after using.

    • Simon, but even in such intermittent usage of mobile data, Android OS is consuming significant amount of data. I switch on mobile data only when required. Is there any way to curb OS's background data consumption?

      • You can turn off sync globally or set them as wifi only in individual apps.

        You should also enable restrict background data as you did already.

  • First, ART requires more internal storage. Also in moto e, if you change to ART, you cannot move apps to sd card.

    Second, you can always press and hold power button to restart or power off the phone. It's not necessary to drain the battery.

    You can try to reboot the phone into safe mode to see whether it helps.

    Did you delete them? or Did they just disappear? If you are talking about Amazon Prime music, you have to use Amazon music to play.

  • If they want, they can track whatever you said and typed. But depending on local laws, the government may need get approval from court in most regions.

  • It is very likely caused by some other apps, especially, lock screen related, power saving related or task manager related apps.

    You can test the incoming calls in safe mode.

  • If you know the files, you can use any file manager to manually move them to SD card. You may try ES File explorer.

    For media files (videos, pictures and music), you can go to Settings --Storage--Move media to move media files automatically.

  • Voicemail is provided by your carrier. Usually the settings are saved in the SIM card and messages are saved in your carrier's server.

  • You cannot download apps directly to SD card in Moto E. However, it's possible to download Apk file from your pc, then transfer the Apk file to the phone. Check chrome extensions on your pc for this.

    Please note, this will NOT save internal storage. When installing apk files, Moto E will still copy the apk file to internal storage, unzip and install to internal storage.

  • For the Chrome issue, you can try to reboot the phone. If the problem persists, you can clear cache and clear data for Chrome browser in Settings--Apps---Chrome.

    The OS update depends on your region and mode number. You cannot bypass it as firmware is individually built for each model.

  • WhatsApp cannot be moved to SD card. The app also doesn't allow you to save media files to SD card.

    Whether an app can be moved to SD card, and whether the app can save data to SD card are decided by app developer, not your phone.

  • Uninstall the antivirus app. Android doesn't need such apps if you get apps from Google play store.

    Most antivirus apps in Android are malware themselves. If you get apps from Google store, you should not worry about security at all. If you use apps from unknown sources, no app can protect you because when you install apps, you already grant the access for the app.

    Motorola, as I know, does NOT bundle any antivirus apps with Moto E.

  • If there is no home button, tap the screen once to exit the full screen immersive mode. Then you can see the 3 buttons on the bottom.

    Also, you can press the hold the power button (for about 10 seconds) to reboot the phone. And you can then get normal lock screen and home screen

  If you have received a notification message for this update:

  Select "Yes, I’m in".
  After the software is downloaded, select "Install now".
  After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.

  But I never got passed step 2. I downloaded item 23.11.19 and allowed install. Phone showed a message like "won't be able to use phone for 20 min, restart in 5,4,3,2,1"... But after the countdown, nothing happened. No install or restart. The next day it'd ask for the same download and install. So far I have done it 3 times. I noticed it's the same update (23.11.19, 313.4MB). I also manually restarted a few times but nothing helped.

  This is a new phone I bought from Bestbuy last week. Not sure what I need to do to get the update installed. Thanks.

    Anyway, as it's a new phone, you can backup you're files, and try a factory data reset. Then try again.

• No. This is a Sprint pre-paid phone. All I did was signing up for Ring Plus service. Anyway, while I was searching for instructions on factory reset on your site, I came upon "reboot to safe mode". So I rebooted to safe mode and tried the update again. No it's installing!!! Thanks so much for the idea. Will let you know if I have more problem.

    • All I wanted was to have the first update installed. It wouldn't in normal mode for some reason. Once I booted to safe mode it installed. Afterwards it restarted in normal mode automatically. Subsequent updates all installed successfully in normal mode so I'm all set.

  • For the signal, I guess it depends on your carrier's mobile network. When there is no signal, you don't have any icon on missing sim card, right?

    For the Gallery issue, no idea. Probably you tapped somewhere if it happens randomly.

  I have upgraded my MotoE to 5.1 android version 2-3 months back. Since then I have a shortage of memory in my phone...My internal memory is always less than 100MB out of some 2.16GB available, though I have already moved all possible apps to SD Card and keep on deleting cache and all time to time.
  Also, I found that most of the memory of my phone have been used by GOOGLE PLAY SERVICES(153MB) and Whatsapp(118MB, which I keep on deleting Database from that). So Can you please help me in this and please tell me if any way I can transfer my whatsapp to SD Card.

  • Clearing cache can only temporally increase the available storage. If the storage is always low, the performance will suffer.

    You can move media files to SD card in settings - storage.

    But you cannot move WhatsApp media files. If you manually move media files of WhatsApp, WhatsApp will not show them. There are no solutions because WhatsApp doesn't support media file storage in SD card. You can try to backup your WhatsApp to Google server. You can also manually move media files to a safe location. Again, WhatsApp will not shows then once they are moved out of WhatsApp folder.

    You may install es file explorer, then try to clear kick files as well.

  • You don't have much options on low storage. Google play services are required by many Google apps. You cannot and should not disable it.

    You may uninstall apps that are not used. Also, you can move media files to SD card.

    You can use es file explorer to clean some junk files and check detailed storage usage.

    For WhatsApp, it doesn't allow you to save media files to SD card. This is decided by the app developer. You cannot change this.

    It seems your storage are mainly used by other apps or files.

• Re ringtones: My desktop Windows 7 wouldn't recognize my Moto E for storage, though it would charge the battery ??? I also have an older computer with Windows XP. The XP did recognize the storage and I did install ringtones via method 3. Any comment as to what's with the Windows 7 ??

  • Did you install Motorola device manager on Win 7? You also need unlock the screen once after connecting the phone to the PC.

  • As you already know, you should change password. Your laptop can use new password.

    There are no complicated access control for hotspot. You cannot block certain devices.

  • Is it Marshmallow update?

    If yes, after connecting Moto E to the PC, check the notifications on Moto E. You need change USB option to MTP from the notification panel. The default option in Marshmallow is charging only.

  • Some of the space are for caching. If your phone has such low storage, the performance will be affected. You should uninstall apps that are not used to free up some storage.

    You can also use a SD card and move some app data to SD card.

  • Is the location covered by 3G? Is 3G included in your mobile plan? You need check these with your carrier.

  • If the number is called, what exactly is shown on your phone? What exactly does the caller hear?

      • You cannot use voice recorder to record phone calls. It is illegal in many regions. This is the reason why Android removed this feature for a long time already. Most such apps will not work.

  • You can try to clear cache for WhatsApp in Settings --Apps-- WhatsApp.

    If the problem persists, you may backup your WhatsApp message, try to re-install the app.

  • You cannot undo forget network. But when you try to connect to it again, it should ask you to type password.

    In Settings --Wi-Fi, if you can find the SSID of your Wifi network, tap it and choose connect to it.

    If you cannot find the SSID, very likely, you choose to hide your SSID in the router settings. You can tap the menu key (3 vertical dots) in Settings--menu, then tap Add a network.

      When I tap the menu key under settings, my choices are: Scan, WPS Pin Entry, Wi-Fi Direct, Advanced, and Manage Networks. Choice of Add a Network isn't there.

      • Add network should be somewhere in the interface.

        It is your router and only you should know this.

        Anyway, most routers have a web interface for you to manage it. You may check the manual of your router.

  • Not sure about your banking app. Did you talk with the bank?

• Is it possible to backup and restore the Moto E 2nd Gen(Android 6) with a PC, not the Cloud? This should include everything not in the factory configuration if possible.

  • Unfortunately, Motorola does not have a PC software for backup or restore.

    For apps, you may use helium. But not all app data can be backed up.

    For whatsapp and photos, you can manually copy the backup file to your PC.

    For sms and phone logs, you can use some apps to export them as a single file, then copy the files to your PC. You may try this app for SMS, and this app for call logs.

    For contacts, you can export them as a single file, then copy it to the PC.

• I've downloaded some PDF files that I don't need anymore. When I open them I can't find a way of deleting them. Can anyone tell me how?

  • Any file manager apps should have the function to delete such files. If you are using es file explorer, you calm tap and hold the file name to select it, then you can see the delete option.   • Did you check ringtone settings? What's the volume settings?

    If you turn on TalkBack or other accessibility settings, the phone may work slightly differently. It depends accessibility features enabled.

  • Did you find the folder? What's the error message when copying? If you still have problem with ES file explorer, you can try to copy it when the phone is connected to a PC.

      • When you get the issue (some services or files not working), you should reboot the phone. Although most services can restart themselves, the system may be not stable if the game has triggered some bugs in the system.

        As for the issue on installing apps or updates, it sounds like storage issue. Did this happen to any apps it some big apps only? Anyway, if you are sure you have digging sufficient internal storage, you can try to clear cache partition to see where it helps.

        For copying apps to PC (APK files), it's against Google play polices. But there are many backup tools can back up the app. You can try Helium in play store. You need Helium desktop if the phone is not rooted.

      • No, there is no undo or rollback option in Android update.

        The only way to roll back is to flash the phone with old ROM. But this requires you to know how to get the correct ROM for your phone and how to flash the phone. We do not discuss such topics in this site as it may brick your phone if done incorrectly.

      • 1. You should not save contacts to sim card nowadays. You can only save name and one phone number for one contact if you save the contact to SIM card. SIM card nowadays usually has very limited storage for users as well. Most of the small storage was reserved by the carrier.

        You stood save your contacts to your Google account (default). In this way, your contacts will be synced among all your devices automatically.

        In Moto devices, you can import contacts in the sim card to your phone. Open the Contacts app, tap navigation menu (3 lines), tap Settings, then tap import. But you cannot export contacts to sim card.

        2. Factory data reset will remove all data saved in the phone. But your email account is saved by email provider. For example, you can access Gmail account from any devices. For account login info, you should have a copy. Evening saved in the phone will be removed. But a lot of data may be just synced to your phone. They're actually saved in provider's server. Anyway, this depends on individual apps. You should always backup the phone before reset.

      • Where did you download these apps? If they are from play store, your can always download them again. ES file explorer can a be downloaded again. But whether the app data can be backed up, it depends on the apps. Some apps just synced data. For example, Gmail or Facebook apps saved data in their servers. For these apps, it is not necessary to back up. You just need the log in details. Some apps have own back up settings. For example, WhatsApp can only be backed up inside the app. So it really depends on what you want to back up. You should have a list of important apps with important data and check whether the data are saved in the server or only in the phone. If they are saved only in the phone (e.g., WhatsApp), you can check whether the app offer back up options.

  • You need to enable USB tethering (settings - more connections- tethering & portable hotspot- USB tethering) in the phone after you connect the phone to the PC with a USB cable.

  • Yes, upgrading from Lollipop (5.1) to Marshmallow (6.0) is considered as a major update. You may check whether you need these new features.

  • This is because you have duplicated contacts in SIM card. Moto E will not change contacts in SIM card.

    Open Contacts app, tap the menu key (3 vertical dots near top right), tap Contacts to display. Then you can customize.

• Is there a flashing notification light on moto E4 as is the one on moto G? If not is there any app that will create one?

  • Moto E4 and E4 Plus do have the LED. But Motorola did NOT advertise this feature because it is apparently disabled in a few regions.

    You can try it by enabling Display inside Moto app.

    • Thanks Simon for responding so quickly to my inquiry. I already did the enabling of display but to no avail. I am here in the US and am on Boost Mobile. Maybe it has something to do with boost? I looked over some of the play store apps that say they add the ability, but some what hesitant about using any of them. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

      • I would not recommend any apps. Most of them doesn't work. Some of them may drain the battery considerably.

        Did other settings on Moto app work? You may also try to reboot the phone to see whether it helps.

        • Than you Simon, other settings work within Moto. If I were to reboot phone, won't that put phone back to factory settings and I lose all my personnel stuff?

        • No, it just restart the phone (power off and then on).

          You never reboot the phone? Normally, you should reboot Android phones once or twice each month.

        • it is not necessary to power off the phone everyday. Once a week is sufficient.

          Anyway, Motorola does not mention the LED (as they did for other Moto G and E devices), it usually means they will not support this feature.

      • When you connect the phone to the PC through Bluetooth, PC is always acting as the master. You can not use PC as an output device for the phone.

  • It sounds like a battery issues. Probably the battery is near end of its life.

  • You probably need to replace the battery. It seems the battery is too old to hold the full capacity.

    When it shows low battery, what's the actual battery percentage?

    When it shows low battery, you should stop using the phone. Then charge it. You should not use the phone when it's being charged.

  When it shows low battery,mostly the actual battery is more than 40,50or60%,I mean to say more than low battery level. One thing also I want to tell u that when I connect it to power and check the battery level, after 5-6minutes i again check the battery level,it shows 20-30% battery more than the level that has been checked before which is not possible.

  • It sounds like either the battery calibration was messed up, or some cells in the battery did not work at more.

    You can try to re-calibrate the phone by 1). charge the battery to full (you should NOT use the phone extensively when charging). 2). use the phone and do not charge the battery until it warns low battery.; 3) reboot the phone; 4). power off the phone; 5). charge the battery to full again.

      • Charger should not be issue. All normal (not fast charger) USB charger is similar. But for old battery, you may try 5v 1A (or 1.5A) charger.

  • Hold power button for more than 5 seconds, you will then get the power option to reboot the phone.

    You can also hold the power button for more than 10 seconds to reboot the phone. If the phone is not responsive, you can hold two buttons: volume down+ power key.

  • You can try to clear cache and clear data for the camera app in Settings - apps.

  • Moto E4 uses Google keyboard (Gboard). It doesn't have the T9 mode/layout.

    But if you tap the leftmost key in the bottom line (?123), you are directed to numbers and symbols. Now tap the number key "1234" left to the space, you should get the layout like what you said.

    When I swipe ^, then tap phone my favorites show up. at the bottom of that screen is an icon with 10 squares that resemble a T9 keyboard. When I tap that, I get what certainly looks like a T9 kb to me, Medium dark blue numerals on ma white background. The leftmost column, from top to bottom, is 1, 4, 7, *. Tapping * puts a * in the send line, that's all.

    I've had this phone for 2 days. Again, my goal is to change the background color of this T9 display (and the colors of the numerals too).

    • It is not a real T9 keyboard. Anyway, if you just need it, it's fine.

      To change the background colour and the keyboard theme, you can go to Settings - Language & Input- virtual keyboard- Gboard - theme. You can use different colours and use different background images. You can also set the height of the keyboard area in Settings - Language & Input- virtual keyboard- Gboard - preferences.

  • You can only get a delivery report. In Messages app, tap the menu key (3 vertical dots mear top right), tap Settings, tap Advanced, check Get SMS delivery reports.

    Android phone cannot get info when the SMS was read. Most carriers allow delivery reports only.

• Can I make it harder to power down my moto e5 play? I keep hitting the buttons when it is in my pocket and powering down the phone.

  • You cannot adjust the sensitivity of the button. But you can use a flip cover to alleviate the issue.

• My Moto E calendar will not allow me to set times for Events or Reminders to AM if the current time is not AM. How do I fix this?

  • Have you tried using Google Calendar?

    • No, didn't make sense when there is a built in calendar. Is this an known error with the Moto E OS, or is it just my phone?

      • Are you using 24-hour time format on the phone?

• One more question while I'm here. I bought a SD card and moved all pictures and apps allowed to free up memory. The problem is that it worked great for a while, but now it won't stay connected. I remove it and reinsert, it works and then it disappears again. Is the problem with the card or the phone? I can't even get it to stay connected long enough to transfer all my pics to my PC.

  • What can you see in settings-storage?

    • the SD card is grayed which is how I know it is not connected. Also, Gallery doesn't show the folder for the SD pictures.

• I don't know if it's a known issue. I know Google Calendar works on my desktop and my Moto E4. What I enter on the desktop appears on the E4. What I enter on the E4 appears on the Desktop. Works for Google Contacts also.

  • The default calendar app in Moto devices is actually Google Calendar. Motorola stopped own calendar app after Google bought them. Lenovo did not put their terrible calendar app to Moto phones after they bought Motorola.

  • The storage in Moto E is vert limited. You should only install apps that you really need.

    If your Moto E is on Android 8 (Oreo) or later, you can free up some space in Setting --storage. For older versions, you can install Files by Google app. It is Google's file manager and it can clear junk files for you.

    Depending on your Android version, you may move media files to the SD card, or even use the micro SD card as internal storage as explained in this guide. Please note, in recent versions, Motorola removed this feature of using Micro SD card as the internal storage.

• Hello. I'm having a problem with my Moto E 2nd gen that I can't find an answer for. My signal strength on the beach is about -100 dB and in the cottage after boosting 3G with Wilson amplifier I get a strong -80 to -65 dB signal. I am now often getting no connection even though signal is strong. If I go to settings and select phone to find network automatically if will connect and all is well. a few hours later it might do it again - strong signal and no server chosen unless I force it to connect automatically again. What might prevent the phone from connecting automatically on it's own without manual intervention? I've cleaned the contacts of the SIM card with electrical contact cleaner and that didn't help. Any suggestions? Thank you

  • Not sure about the issue. When you say there are problems after a few hours, is the problem limited to mobile data, or both mobile data AND voice (i.e., others cannot call you)? If it is mobile data only, then you can run a speed test to see whether the connection can be re-established. Battery saving mode may cause some mobile data connection issues. If you enabled it, you need to disable it.

    When you see the problem, you can take a screenshot of the SIM card status and share it on our Facebook page so that others may have some idea on the issue.

• Thank you for the response. The problem is only on voice calls as I do not use data at this cottage location. The phone is set to 3G only as my Wilson amplifier only amplifies 850 MHz signal. Battery saving mode is off as this is my main phone which is always on. Its charger is connected to a timer that charges every 56 hours (3x per week) for two hours keeping the battery charge always between 50-100%. When the phone says no connection with signal strength of -75 dB it will only reconnect if I go into settings and tell the phone to connect, then all is well again until the next connection failure. I don't believe signal strength is the cause. How do I see the status of the SIM card.

  • So, the -75db is from the amplifier, not from the phone?

    To check SIM card status, you go to Settings -- About phone -- Status -- SIM status. You can read the signal strength registered on the phone.

    You may specify the network provider (your carrier) to see whether it helps.

    • Thank you, Simon. The signal strength is read on the phone. My app "Network Cell Info" also confirms the same signal strength. When I go to the location you specified all I see for status is "my phone number", "IMEI" and IMEI SV" (reads 12). I don't see "SIM status"

      • Not sure. But a SIM card very rarely gets problems.

        For the status info, in the Settings, you can search Status. The entry may be placed somewhere else in different regions.

  • There are many ways to transfer photos from Moto E to the PC.

    On the phone, you can save (download) the photo to the photo. Then you should be able to view it in the Photos app.

    The Photos app can backup all your photos and pictures to your Google Drive. You just need to enable the sync.

    Of course, you can also copy file and photos directly from the phone to your PC with a USB cable. But you need to install the Motorola USB driver on the PC.

• I baught my son a amped clear 15 inch tv, how can we watch movies from his moto e on his tv? Tried the USB port but when I hit the source button there is no USB option only tv, AV, HDMI, and PC. We don't have an HDMI cable so how else can we do it? Been working with aux to 2 RCA cord that I made from instructions on YouTube, can't seem to get it to work. Is there anything we can do?

  • Moto E cannot directly connect to a TV. it does not support external display at all.

    If the TV has an HDMI input, the best option would be to get a Chromecast. The $30 (usually $20 in promotion) Chromecast with Google TV should work fine with your Moto E.
