How to use Moto E6 camera?

by simon 9 Comments

Moto E6 cameraMoto E6 (E6, E6 Plus, E6 Play, E6S) is a major update for Moto E series with improved camera, fingerprint reader, face unlock, and many other improvements.

This Moto E6 guide shows you how to use Moto E6  camera (mainly E6 Plus), how to customize Moto E6 camera settings, how to take portrait mode photos, how to customize and apply face beauty filter.

Please note the cameras on the four Moto E6 phones are slightly different. But all of the features mentioned in this guide should work on all these four Moto E6 models.

Two different camera apps on Moto E6 phones

On the four Moto E6 phones (Moto E6, E6 Plus, E6 Play, and E6s), Motorola used two different camera apps.

  • Moto E6 Plus (Moto E6s in India) has a new camera app that has not been found in other Moto E phones.
  • Moto E6, E6 Play, and E6s use the standard Moto Camera app.

It is unclear why Motorola/Lenovo did not implement the same camera app on the later Moto E6 models.

Of course, it is also very confusing. But it seems it is the new norm of Motorola: lack of consistency.

As Moto E6 Plus (E6s in India) is the most popular model of the Moto E6 family, this guide will use this new camera app for the demonstration.

If you are using Moto E6, E6 Play, and E6s 2020, then the camera app interface is slightly different. But the features are similar.

Actually, the camera app on Moto E6 plus is very user friendly and looks very clean. Unreliable features like the manual model were removed from the interface

How to use SIM cards on Moto E6, E6 Plus, E6 Play, and E6s 2020?

use the SIM card tray/slots and use two SIM cards on Moto E6, E6 Plus, E6 Play, and E6s 2020

use SIM cards on Moto E6, E6 Plus, E6 Play, and E6s 2020You need to use SIM cards on Moto E6 (or E6 Plus, E6 Play, and E6s 2020) if you need to make voice calls, receive and send text messages, and use mobile data.

It is possible to use the phone without a SIM card. But normally, a WiFi-only tablet is cheaper and has a bigger screen.

Due to the different locations of the SIM card slots on Moto E6, Moto E6 Plus, Moto E6 Play, and Moto E6s 2020 (for example, for Moto E6 and E6 Plus, you have to remove the back cover the access the SIM card slots), many Moto E6 owners are confused on how to add and manage SIM cards on these phones.

This Moto E guide explains everything you need to know about using SIM cards on Moto E6, E6 Plus, E6 Play, and E6s 2020: the SIM card size, add and manage SIM cards, access SIM card slots, use two SIM cards on the dual SIM version of Moto E6, E6 Plus, E6 Play, and E6s 2020, change mobile network settings, and check SIM card status.

What is the supported SIM card size on Moto E6, E6 Plus, E6 Play and E6s 2020?

Motorola started to switch the nano-SIM card from Moto E4 and Moto G5.

Moto E6, Moto E6 Play, and Moto E6s 2020 require a nano-SIM card.

But Moto E6 Plus is an exception. The two SIM card slots include one for the micro-SIM card and the other for a nano-SIM card. The good news is that a micro-SIM adapter is provided in the Moto E6 Plus box.

So, on Moto E6 Plus, you can choose to use two nano-SIM cards, or one nano-SIM and one micro-SIM card.

This means you may carry a spare battery and swap it in at any time.

Of course, to swap the battery, you must remove the Moto E6 back cover (and Moto E6 Plus, E6 Play, and E6s 2020’s as well).

Moto E6 vs Moto E6 Plus vs Moto E6 Play vs Moto E6s: what are the major differences?

If you are confused about the 4 Moto E models, you are not alone.

by simon 2 Comments

Moto E6 vs Moto E6 Plus vs Moto E6 Play vs Moto E6s: what are the major differences?Motorola (Lenovo) announced Moto E6s in February 2020 to finally seal the 6th gen of Moto E with 4 variants (models) in a span of more than 6 months: Moto E6, Moto E6 Plus, Moto E6 Play, and Moto E6s.

Even many Morotola staffs are confused about such releasing style. It took them more than half a year to release the 6th generation of Moto E.

Even more confusing, the differences among these 4 Moto  E6 models are not obvious, except the two sizes. Motorola probably should release one, at least not more than two models, Moto E6. For example, Moto E4 and E4 Plus differ significantly.

This Moto E guide explains the major differences of Moto E6 vs Moto E6 Plus vs Moto E6 Play vs Moto E6s. The common features of these 4 Moto E models are also covered.

The official user manuals (in PDF format) for Moto E6, E6 Plus, E6 Play, and E6s 2020 are available on this page.

The release date of Moto E6 vs Moto E6 Plus vs Moto E6 Play vs Moto E6s

Moto E6 was announced in July 2019 announced. and released in August 2019.

One month later, in September 2019, Moto E6 Plus was announced and released in the same month.

In October 2019, Moto E6 Play was announced. It was released in November 2019.

The last model Moto E6s was announced in March 2020 and released in April 2020.

Please note, when Moto E6 Plus was released, in some regions, for example, in India, it was named as E6s already.  So, Motorola always refers to the Moto E6s as Moto E6s 2020.

Anyway, if you got a Moto E6s, possibly, it is actually Moto E6 Plus.

Moto E4 vs Moto E4 Plus: major differences between Moto E4 and Moto E4 Plus

Which Moto E is for you: Moto E4 or Moto E4 Plus? You can get the answer here.

by simon 10 Comments

Moto E4 vs Moto E4 Plus: major differences between Moto E4 and Moto E4 PlusMotorola announced two latest Moto E family products: Moto E4 and Moto E4 Plus on June 12. This post summarizes the major differences between Moto E4 and Moto E4 Plus.

Both Moto E4 and Moto E4 Plus share a similar design and build quality. But the difference between these two phones is substantial.

Hopefully, the comparison of Moto E4 and Moto E4 Plus will help you to decide which phone is for you.

Please note some features, e.g., dual SIM feature and CPU (Snapdragon 425/427  for North America and Mediatek MT6737 for other regions), are region-specific. We do not consider such differences in this post as such features are not options for users.

Moto E4 vs Moto E4 Plus: Moto E4 plus is bigger

Moto E4 Plus is far bigger and heavy than Moto E4.

The screen size of Moto E4 is 5″, while Moto E4 Plus 5.5″. But the screen resolution is identical at 720p (1280*720).

This means Moto E4 has a higher pixel density (294ppi vs 267ppi).  Same photos in Moto G4 may look sharper than in Moto E4 Plus.

Moto E4 Plus is about 31% heavier than Moto E4 (198g vs 151g).

Moto E4 vs Moto E4 Plus: Moto E4 plus has a bigger battery with 10w fast charging

One of the major differences between these two phones is the battery.

Moto E4 has a removable battery with a capacity of 2800mAH. Moto E4 Plus has a non-removable battery with an eye-popping capacity of 5000mAH, which is comparable to many battery packs in the market.

This means Moto E4 Plus should have far longer battery life than Moto E4 although it has a larger display. Motorola claimed Moto E4 Plus battery can last two days for most users.

In addition, Moto E4 Plus charges … Read the rest

Moto E 2nd Gen (Moto E 4G): the best value-for-money smartphone in 2015

by simon 8 Comments

On February 25, 2015, Motorola released Moto E 2nd Gen (aka Moto E 2015, or Moto E 4G) through an innovative Moto E press conference box.  Everyone, not just journalists,  can join the press conference at Moto E 2nd Gen (Moto E 4G)any time to get more info on  Moto E 2nd Gen at StartWithMotoE.com.

The new Moto E 2nd Gen (Moto E 2015) is probably the best value-for-money smartphone you can get in 2015.

What’s new in Moto E 2nd Gen (Moto E 2015)

1. Bigger (4.5″) and better (IPS) display

Moto E 2nd Gen (Moto E 2015) shares the similar look of the old Moto E.  The display is slightly larger at 4.5″.

Although the screen resolution is still qHD (540*960),  it is upgraded to IPS panel, which will definitely give you better visual experience.  You may read this post on the display technology for smartphones.

2. Faster quad-core processor

The processor in new Moto E 2nd Gen (Moto E 2015) is upgraded from dual-core in the old Moto E to quad-core.

For Moto E 2nd Gen 4G model, the processor is Qualcomm Snapdragon 410,  which can be found in many middle-range ($200-$400)  smartphones and tablets.

3. More storage (8GB)

The meager 4GB internal storage in the old Moto E is often complained. Although you can add a 32GB SD card, a lot of apps cannot be moved to SD card. Many owners feel frustrated because they cannot install their favorite games/apps due to lack of internal storage. For moving apps to SD card, you may check this guide.

The Moto E 2nd Gen (Moto E 2015) gives 8GB storage with SD card support (up to 32GB).  So, for most users, this is probably sufficient.

4. Improved rear camera

Motorola Alert Guide

by simon 46 Comments

Motorola Alert  is currently exclusive to Moto E

Being cheap does not mean low quality. I think, as a Moto E owner, you already understand this.

To make your Moto E even sweeter, Motorola just released Motorola Alert app for Moto E, and this app is currently exclusive to Moto E! Of course, the app will be compatible with Moto X and Moto G in the future.

What is Motorola Alert?

Motorola Alert is an extremely useful emergency alert app that lets you quickly alert people important to you when you need them,  for example, when you are in danger.

Once  Motorola alert is enabled in your Moto E, it will begin sending periodic notifications with your location to the people you designate so they can act fast to give you the help you need. This means Motorola Alert may also be used as a  tracking tool.

Motorola Alert allows you:

  • to send an emergency message with your location info;
  • to turn your Moto E into an emergency alarm (it is really loud; please don’t test it in office);
  • to dial an emergency number automatically;
  • to send your current location periodically;
  • to send out alerts to meet you at your current location.

The designated contacts will receive the SMS/MMS. You can broadcast the info to several contacts. Of course, you need to designate the contacts when you set up the app.

You can also change the list of designated contacts later.

Why can Motorola Alert save your life?

Motorola Alert is primarily an emergency alert app. Whenever you feel you are in an unsafe environment, or you need some help urgently,  the persons you trusted can receive the alert immediately and may provide the support you need.

As the alert message includes the location info, your contacts can quickly locate … Read the rest
